FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a custom project take?

Every project is unique, so timelines vary depending on the design, materials, and our current workload. Most custom furniture projects are completed within 4–10 weeks after the design and material selection are finalized. If you have a specific deadline, let us know, and we'll do our best to accommodate your schedule. For example, some slabs are hand selected but not yet professional dried and sanitized. This can take a few weeks alone and that's just getting the wood slab ready to be worked on.

Can I choose my own wood slab?

Absolutely. One of the best parts of commissioning a custom piece is selecting the wood that speaks to you. Whenever possible, we'll provide photos of available slabs or invite you to view them in person so you can choose the grain, figure, and character that best fits your vision.

Do you deliver?

Yes. We offer local delivery throughout Central and Southwest Virginia, including the Smith Mountain Lake area, and can discuss delivery options for customers outside our local area -even across the country! Smaller items can also be shipped throughout the United States.

How much does a custom table cost?

Every table is built specifically for the customer, so pricing depends on factors such as size, wood species, design, base style, and custom features like epoxy or engraving, so there's really no standard price. However, to give you some idea of basic entry prices...

Typical starting prices are:

  • Charcuterie Boards: Starting at $75
  • Coffee & End Tables: Starting at $500
  • Desks: Starting at $1,200
  • Dining Tables: Starting at $2,000

We're happy to provide a free, no-obligation quote based on your project.

How do I care for solid wood furniture?

Solid wood is designed to last for generations with proper care.

We recommend:

  • Dust regularly with a soft microfiber cloth.
  • Clean with a damp cloth and mild soap when needed.
  • Avoid harsh household cleaners or abrasive products.
  • Use coasters, placemats, and trivets to protect the finish.
  • Maintain consistent indoor humidity whenever possible.

We'll also provide care recommendations specific to the finish used on your piece.

Will my table crack or warp?

Solid wood naturally expands and contracts with seasonal changes in humidity. We design every piece to allow for this natural movement, helping prevent damage while preserving the beauty and integrity of the furniture. One example is adding C-channel to the under-side of a large slab. This C-channel allows expansion/contraction but doesn't allow curling or cupping. Minor seasonal movement is completely normal and part of what makes solid wood unique. Solid wood also has one major advantage over veneers, it's easily repairable if needed. It can be refinished after years, or even decades, of existing while veneers are simply tossed away - veneers are known as disposable furniture.

Can you match my existing furniture or décor?

Yes. We've done some repairs on antique pieces and matching those old stains, not to mention, creating the same "worn" look takes some effort but certainly possible. Whether you're trying to match the color of existing furniture, complement your home's style, or coordinate with cabinetry or flooring, we'll work closely with you to create a piece that feels right at home in your space.

What wood species do you recommend?

It depends on the style you're looking for.

  • Black Walnut – Rich, elegant, and one of our favorites for heirloom furniture.
  • White Oak – Strong, timeless, and excellent for modern or traditional designs.
  • Cherry – Warm tones that deepen beautifully with age.
  • Maple – Clean, durable, and ideal for lighter contemporary styles.
  • Exotic Hardwoods – Perfect when you're looking for dramatic grain patterns or distinctive colors.

We'll help you choose the species that best fits your design, budget, and intended use.

Do you build more than tables?

Absolutely. While custom tables are one of our specialties, we also build desks, benches, coffee tables, end tables, charcuterie boards, serving trays, cutting boards, floating shelves, fireplace mantels, home décor, and one-of-a-kind custom pieces. If you have an idea, we'd love to discuss it.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy. Simply contact us with your ideas, inspiration photos, dimensions, or even just a rough concept. We'll guide you through selecting the right wood, refining the design, and creating a custom piece that's uniquely yours.

Why choose custom furniture instead of mass-produced furniture?

Custom furniture is designed specifically for your home, your style, and your needs. Unlike factory-made furniture built from veneers or composite materials, our pieces are handcrafted from premium hardwoods selected for their natural beauty and durability. The result is furniture with real character, built to last, and if ever needed, it can be repaired or refinished so it's a piece to be enjoyed for generations rather than replaced after a couple years.
